Charlie's 3 rd birthday party

We had Charlie's birthday party on Saturday. We had it early this year because the last two years he's had Coxsackie virus and we've cancelled his parties. This year he wanted a firetruck party and I really wanted him to actually have it, so we scheduled it early to try and avoid his "sick time". Above is the cake I made. For some reason, blogger keeps turning it sideways, maybe for dramatic effect, but either way, it came out well, Charlie loved it and was so excited to watch me frost it Saturday morning. The kids all seemed to like it and there was little to none left...I'd call that a success! I made a giraffe cake for him his first year once we had some people over after he was no longer contagious...last year we didn't do anything but go out to eat...I still feel guilty about that, but this year, he got the cake he asked for. Lets hope he keeps the requests rather simple, otherwise they may not look so good!
Smiling and getting ready for our trip to Union Station Fire House...

We had the party in the truck bay, right next to the big clean firetruck. Since it was warm out, we were able to have it in the bay, and the kids could climb on the truck all they wanted rather than having to party in the hall upstairs and coming down for a brief time to look at the truck.

Charlie and Nolan comparing fire hats. Nolan was a fireman for Halloween so he came prepared with his own hat, we had red hats for all the kids so it was cute to see a bunch of little red helmets running around!

Nolan checking the fit of the red hat...

One of the Zippin twins with her constant smile on! I can't remember if this is Maddie or Abby but they both are too cute and were babies that I took care of in the NICU!

Charlie watching daddy dress up like a fireman...

Giving fireman daddy a kiss. He got scared when the put on the mask and respirator...but was better once it looked like daddy again. They put on this demonstration to show the kids that firemen are here to help and are not scary with their gear on. It was very cute!

Hallie modeling her red hat. She is another little NICU graduate who spent so much time with us and is now walking and talking and looks so good! It really is amazing to see how far she has come in two years!

Loving the fact that everyone is singing happy birthday to him!

Sharing cake with daddy...

Thank you everyone who came out to celebrate Charlie's party with us. Thank you also for the wonderful and fun gifts everyone brought. He really had a great time and keeps talking about all of his friends at the firehouse!
